Top Spots For Locally Roasted Coffee In South Florida
The smell of coffee wafts through the house every morning, wakes people up from their sleep and gets them bright-eyed for the day's activities. But with the abundance of coffee consumed each day, drinkers are starting to raise their standards in what makes a good cup of joe. In South Florida, these five businesses serve up outstanding locally roasted coffee for your drinking pleasure.
Pasion Del Cielo
8915 S.W. 72nd Place
Miami, FL 33156
(786) 347-3507
www.pasiondelcielo.com
Located in Downtown Dadeland, this business roasts its own coffee and prepares custom-made selections by customers (espresso, latte, mocha) according to the bean they select. The beans the company roasts are from the coffee-rich countries of Jamaica, Peru, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Hawaii, etc. Pasion's flagship location is in Coral Gables and in addition to the Dadeland location, will be opening a store in Midtown Miami.
Panther Coffee
2390 N.W. 2nd Ave.
Miami, FL 33127
(305) 677-3952
www.panthercoffee.com
Owners Joel Pollock and Leticia Ramos Pollack select coffee beans through "cupping" and then roast them on-site. The Pollocks have over 20 years of experience in roasting coffee and source the coffee from farms in areas of the world such as Guatemala, Ethiopia and Nicaragua. Panther Coffee holds events, such as open mic and coffee poets, with promotions on its website to lure interested coffee drinkers and literary buffs. There is another location in Miami Beach at 1875 Purdy Avenue with the same hours.
Eternity Coffee Roasters
117 S.E. 2nd Ave.
Miami, FL 33131
(305) 350-7761
www.eternitycoffeeroasters.com
Another local business, Eternity owns farms in Colombia and buys from local farmers in other coffee-producing countries to produce its brand. Visitors to the site can buy coffee bags online and see the different products named after the locations where Eternity buys its coffee (Burundi, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Colombia). The flagship store is in the heart of downtown Miami and customers can pass by to enjoy a cup and look at artwork from artist Jean Hope Hammerman.
Señor Coffee
8353 W Sunrise Blvd.
Plantation, FL 33322
(954) 236-8547
www.senorcoffee.com
This coffee house will serve organically grown coffee from Colombia that wakes up the senses with smells and tastes. The location is right on Sunrise Boulevard in the City of Plantation. The company's website (currently under construction) will have an online store where customers could buy the Señor brand and drink it at their house early in the morning or late at night. The staff remembers the names of regular customers and makes new customers want to continue to return. The inside isn't like a Starbucks with room for sitting and pondering but is instead for active coffee drinkers that want to get good coffee to fuel the rest of their day's activities.
Kaña Coffee Roasters
1909 Banks Road
Margate, FL 33063
(954) 933-9742
www.kanacubancoffee.net
Not established yet in the Broward Coffee drinker's visual map of good coffee businesses, Kaña Coffee deserves a mention. It roasts its coffee on-site Cuban style, getting the most flavor out of the coffee without over roasting and producing bitter or burnt coffee, as it says on the website. Kaña even instructs customers on how to make the perfect cup of Cuban coffee in the section called Kaña University. The site in Margate is commercial but Kaña distributes its coffee to local vendors like Fresh Market, located in Ft. Lauderdale. Customers can buy bags of whole bean or ground coffee on the website and there is a Kaña Coffee site that will be opening soon on Flagler Street and Miami Avenue. Franchisee opportunities are available as this local vendor looks to branch out and grow in the South Florida area.
