Top 3 Happy Hour Places: College Edition
Well, it's Thursday night, you're out of alcohol and you're tight on cash. Downtown awaits, but how will you ever survive a sober arrival on 6th Street? Oh the horror! No need to worry any further, my friends. Luckily, there is a solution to this problem that many of us find ourselves in at the end of the week. I've compiled a list of three college-friendly (AKA cheap as fudge) places where you and your friends can enjoy a cocktail or two or three before going Downtown.
1. El Arroyo, 1624 W. 5th Street
Let me begin by saying that every Thursday, margaritas are only $1. If that doesn't have you set on this place, I'm not sure what will. It's pretty packed on Thursdays but this place makes sure you're still having fun waiting for a table by giving you complimentary chips 'n salsa. There's even a margarita stand outside so you can walk up and purchase a marg right on the spot. Since El Arroyo is located Downtown, you're just a 5 minute cab ride to 6th Street.
2. Trudy's, 409 W. 30th Street
If you have time to kill and you're in the mood for a little more than a cocktail, hit up Trudy's. This is a place known for their good drinks and even better food—nachos, enchiladas, quesadillas, you name it. Every night its happy hour menu changes, featuring one or two cocktails at a discounted price. Known for its beloved Mexican Martinis (available for only $5 on Mondays), Trudy's only allows you to order two. Yes, they are THAT good (and strong).
3. Fuzzy's, 2522 Guadalupe Street
Just a hop, skip and a jump from campus (and the E-bus pick-up on Guadalupe), Fuzzy's offers cheap drinks and a laid back yet fun atmosphere. The restaurant is usually loaded with college kids grabbing a bite to eat and a few cocktails to drink before they venture "dt" for the night. At around 10p.m., students start trickling in to enjoy the impressive beer collection and other cocktails. Popular choices are the $3 margaritas. On Fridays it's rumored you can buy $2 pints of Ziegebbock.
