Tasha's To Do List: September 4-7, 2014
NORTH TEXAS (1080 KRLD) -
Tonight at the Winspear Opera House...a guy who has been making films for over 30 years. His most widely known documentaries include The Civil War, The National Parks: American's Best Idea and Prohibition. This event will feature a conversation and sneak preview of his latest film... The Roosevelts: An Intimate History, a new seven-part, 14-hour documentary. Spend an Evening with Ken Burns- tonight (9/4) at the Winspear.
The premier concert series "Cool Thursdays" at the Dallas Arboretum returns this evening (9/4). This fall series kicks off with everybody's favorite "Emerald City". The costume contest for the show is for everyone to dress in white from head-to-toe for the "Emerald City 'White Out' Award."
Admit it. Every time you hear The Car's "Moving in Stereo"...you have visions of Phoebe Cates in a red bikini. Here is a chance to relive that memory from high school with this week's showing of 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' ...part of the Retro Cinema series at Movie Taverns. Check it out tonight (9/4).
The Cowboys take on the 49ers Sunday (9/7) at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Here is something cool to see...a 600 square foot area filed with all kinds of Texas butterflies. It is part of the 2014 Kiwanis Butterfly Festival in the Southlake Town Square tomorrow through Sunday (September 5th through the 7th). At the end of the event, the butterflies will be released directly from the pavilion. This event will raise funds for local children's charities, including the Children's Miracle Network.
The 31st Annual Dallas Home & Garden Show is also happening this weekend (9/6-9/7) at Dallas Market Hall. You can see everything from a New Products Pavilion, Dallas County Master Gardeners, Green Energy Products, Home Décor, Remodelers, Building Products, Kitchens & Baths, Outdoor Living, Pools, Spas, and $100 Give-A-Ways.
Tomorrow night (9/5) at Gexa...you can see Brad Paisley, Randy Houser, Leah Turner & Charlie Worsham.
Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church will celebrate its homecoming this coming Sunday, September 7 with country gospel singer and Grammy Award winner Larry Gatlin. The community is invited to attend to hear him sing at one of the services and attend a meet and greet.
These guys are known for being the best AC-DC tribute anywhere...getting an endorsement from the guys in AC-DC...and even supplying AC-DC songs for movie soundtracks. What I like about this band is that the lead singer does a spot on impersonation of both AC-DC lead singers...the late Bon Scott and Brian Johnson. See Back in Black at the House of Blues tomorrow night (9/5).
Everybody has their favorite ballad and 1981's "Living Inside Myself" is one of mine. See the dude behind the tune...Gino Vanelli Saturday night (9/6) at the Eiseman Center in Richardson. Get more details by clicking on the link above.
This looks to be a really cool rock show. First of all, it gives us chance to gaze upon the beauty of Dallas Buyers Club actor/musician Jared Leto...and hear some great music from 30 Seconds to Mars, Linkin Park...and AFI. See them all together in the Carnivore Tour Saturday night (9/6) at Gexa.
The Retro Futura show will be here before you know it. See Tom Baily of the Thompson Twins... Howard Jones, and Katrina (ex- Katrina & the Waves) this coming Monday (9/8) at Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie.
