St. Louisan Hits A Homerun In Hollywood

St. Louisan James Gunn has made a record-setting mark in Tinsel town this weekend.

 Gunn's new movie. "Guardians of the Galaxy," which he produced, directed and co-wrote scored what industry experts are saying will be the biggest August opening of a movie ever with a total of $94 million in North America. A sequel is being planned.

Gunn, who turns 44-years-old August 5th, is from a well-known St. Louis family that is active in the law and political circles. He holds a B.A. from St. Louis University and an MFA from Columbia University in creative writing, Gunn has four brothers, all of whom work in the entertainment industry.

In second place at the weekend box office was "Lucy' starring Scarlett Johansson with $18.3 million, followed by the new James Brown bio pic "Get on Up," "Hercules" and "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes." Both "Guardians of the Galaxy and "Lucy" are performing much better at the box office that originally expected. Word of mouth on both motion pictures is excellent.
