At the date of its inception in 1931, The Helms Bakery was little more than a bakery which provided locals with fresh baked bread which they delivered daily to households around the city. Since then, a lot has changed. Although no longer a bakery, The Helms Bakery was named an LA landmark and restored in 1974 only to become one of the premiere spots in the city to sample from award winning restaurants, shop top of the line furniture and scope out what the design world has to offer.

When Pascal Donzel came to the United States from his native France in 1992, he had little money, a lot of hope, and did not speak a word of English. He started working for his now wife's Uncle and as she says, "he never left." When they opened their restaurant, La Dijonaise, in the Helms Bakery Building in 2011, Pascal and his wife, Thanh, decided that they would serve fine French croissants, pasties and cuisine without the attitude and high prices. With recipes that were handed down from generation to generation, Pascal bakes at 4am and cooks at night to deliver their excellent selections. La Dijonaise is the perfect place for a break during your shopping excursion at the Helms Bakery. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and rumor is they serve the best croissant in town.

If you're in the mood for a bigger snack though, head to Father's Office for the best burger in town.
