Shailene Woodley Forages, Drinks Special Milk
Actress Shailene Woodley (The Descendants, The Secret Life of the American Teenager) is the cover subject of the June issue of ASOS, the online/offline British fashion magazine/catalogue. The 20-year-old thespian appears wearing a denim shirt, crochet lace shorts, and cat-eye sunglasses (all ASOS brand), her long gams descending into pink roller skates. She looks very... slender.
The secret of her slimness? On an appearance in March on the Rachael Ray Show, Woodley revealed that she forages for about 35 percent of her diet. She'll go off into the mountains around Los Angeles, she maintained, and bring back "stinging nettle and mugwort and a bunch of other herbs:" She's not a vegan or a vegetarian or a neo-Paleolith, necessarily, she added. But she said, "I kind of base my diet of indigenous cultures and what they eat."
She was presumably not referring to those indigenous cultures that eat, oh, say, endangered species or canine steak or, well, their fellow humans. But she did share with Ray her recipe for "iced hot chocolate smoothie," the ingredients for which include coconut water, cashews, cacao powder, maple syrup, and colostrum. Colostrum is the milk produced by mammals in late stages of pregnancy. It is said to aid weight loss, and it apparently works.
