Root Vegeterian Eatery Opens In Allston

After the sad departure of Allston's vegan pizzeria, Peace o'Pie, earlier this year, the space retains its commitment to healthful and fresh vegetarian food with the opening of root.

Deena and Hin, the owners of FoMu, non-dairy 'alternative' ice cream which is located a few doors down from root on Cambridge street, were sad to see their vegan pizza neighbor depart.  Taking a step outside of their ice cream comfort zone, they decided to open root, a casual eatery where fresh produce is delivered daily from Russo's Market in Watertown and subsequently turned into a limited and simple menu.

On top of their new expansion of FoMU in Forest Hills, Deena took the opening and conceptualization of root as her pet project and from the reclaimed materials in the small and cozy cafe space to the fresh and delicious items on the menu, every angle reflects the simple and honest approach this family has to food.

"It's a cool little ecosystem," Deena told us about their nook of Boston's food scene.  Stop by any day to enjoy freshly squeezed juices, sweet potato and kale quesadillas, or any of their delicious salads and burgers.  On Saturdays and Sundays they also offer a full service sit-down brunch from 9:30 to 2:30 p.m.
