If you’re counting calories, drinking mulled cider can be risky. A way to avoid excess calories is to watch out for a lot of added alcohol. If you insist on still sipping cider, here’s a healthier option with less sugar and fewer calories.

  • 6 Cups apple cider
  • 2 orange slices
  • 1 lemon slice
  • 1 slice of ginger, smashed
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 10 whole cloves


Combine cider (or juice), oranges, lemon, ginger, cinnamon sticks, and cloves in a large saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until cider has reduced to 4 cups, about 25 minutes. Remove the fruit and spices with a slotted spoon.
