My father grew up in all-American, Midwestern Battle Creek, Michigan, in the 1950s. It was the time and place of Model Ts and soda fountains, and so when he’s feeling a bit nostalgic in the summertime, we whip up ice cream floats. He loves cherries, and Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia is his favorite ice cream, so I created this recipe in honor of him, summertime, and childhood memories — both his, and the ones we made together.
- 1 Cup Ben & Jerrys Cherry Garcia ice cream
- 2 Cups Cherry cola, such as Wild Cherry Pepsi
- 2 Ounces Sweetened whipped cream, such as Reddi-Wip
- 1 Ounce Dark chocolate chips, preferably Ghirardelli
Scoop ice cream into a tall glass so that it’s 1/3 to 1/2 full.
Slowly pour the soda into the glass until the contents are approximately ½ inch below the rim.
Top with whipped cream and garnish with dark chocolate chips.
