Project Ethos Returns To San Diego To Show Off Art, Music And Fashion
Everyone loves a great party, and Project Ethos certainly knows how to throw one. We've written about the company before, but in case this is the first time you are hearing of them, we'll lay it out for you real quick: focused on fashion, art, music and frankly just having a good time, the company works with local designers, artists, musicians and venues to showcase talent that deserves attention on the west coast.
What we love about Project Ethos is that they do a really good job throwing huge and fun events in some of the hottest clubs and settings, all the while garnering support for local talent. Each one typically features great art on display, a high-energy fashion show, live performances by some of the area's best musical acts and an epic party to top it all off. You can find them sporadically throughout the year doing their thing and annually at Los Angeles Fashion Week (LAFW). In fact, just a few months back we worked with them to send a JustLuxe reader to LAFW and the winner had an amazing time as a result. (You can read all about Jenna's prize here).
Just recently Project Ethos returned to FLUXX in San Diego and the evening was unsurprisingly the place to be that Friday night. So if you sadly couldn't make it, here is a rundown of what you missed:
On the fashion front, there were some great designers with a couple of really standout pieces. The first that comes to mind is Andre Soriano, who showed a very edgy (and totally awesome) bridal line; some of the designs have already been featured in Vogue editorials. Dresses range from elegant, draped shapes that many a traditional bride would love, to more fashion forward looks (think structured shoulders and lace) and ultimately a design the bravest of ladies would wear: a modern black gown with a veil that can only be described as quite nontraditional.
Another really fun line was House of Devali. Also mostly a mix of black and white, the designers showed serious statement cocktail and eveningwear. The line features some very sharp geometric shapes as well as softer sheer fabrics; the combination worked well and the dresses were wearable, albeit conversation starters. Certainly red carpet or fashion-week-worthy (celebs take note: Paris Hilton has already donned one for her latest music video), the broad hips that the dresses create make for a smaller waistline...something every woman wants.
Other designers included Tumbler & Tipsy, Fourtune 421, Noia by Evelyne, Kristen Dorsey Designs (jewelry) with Pink Lagoon and the much anticipated return of Marteal & Estrada. They are all worth checking out if you want to sport style that is great and not what everyone else is wearing.
Local performing artist Eryn Woods later took the stage, her music is a fun mix of punk and pop, certainly taking notes from '90s Gwen Stefani. The high-energy, funky entertainment kicked the rest of the night into full gear, which featured San Diego's DJ Ayeena and later a performance by Ricky Rocks.
Three local SD artists were also at the event showcasing their work: GMONIK, who refers to his own style as "Trash Pop," creates pieces that are full of sharp lines and a montage of images that all work together; many might compare what he does to some tattoo art and he was the top selling artist of the night.
Jack Stricker and Michael Carini also showcased their work. Stricker works within a few mediums and his art is self-described as "contradiction, the movement of nature, and spontaneous humor...capturing moments we each relate to," in a nutshell his work is fun, often colorful and somewhere between reality and dreaming. On a completely different note Carini communicates through his art with bold colors; various balances of depth, contrast and patterns. All three were a fun addition to the evening.

All-in-all each one is a great time and attendees get to find some of the best gems in art, fashion and music within their own community.
