When you tell someone you're going for a waffle sandwich, you get some interesting reactions. People don't know what to make of a savory sandwich made with something that is usually sweet. The waffles at Bruxie are made using a traditional Brussels recipe and they are delicious whether savory or sweet. They are pliable enough to fold around the middle of the sandwich but crisp enough to hold up to whatever is inside. Bruxie frequently has a line of customers, but all of the menu items – especially the hot pastrami and the S'mores – are worth the wait.

The good folks at The Iron Press know how to grab someone's attention with five simple words: "we like beer and waffles." Some folks might consider it an odd combination, but The Iron Press serves up delicious waffle sandwiches with an excellent selection of local beers. From sour beers to stouts, you'll find the perfect beer to accompany your sandwich. Try the spicy Polish sausage (topped with whole grain mustard and sauerkraut) with an IPA that nicely complements the spice.

A waffle doesn't have to be plain. It can be a truly decadent breakfast or brunch item. The menu at Plums advertises a chocolate banana waffle. That doesn't mean it's topped with chocolate. The batter has chocolate in it and then this incredibly moist treat is topped with caramel, whipped cream and sliced bananas. At $15, it's not something you can enjoy all the time, but it is an excellent occasional treat.

Stacks is a pancake house, but you can get a mighty fine waffle here too. What sets this place apart is the variety. If you're in the mood for a waffle, you can get one topped with fruit and cream, nuts or even Oreos. Just as good as the variety is the price. You can get one of these delicious waffles for less than $7.
