August 25th is National Secondhand Wardrobe Day. Stop in at any one of New York City's Housing Works stores to snatch some deals while also donating money to a great cause. Proceeds from every sale made at Housing Works go towards HIV/AIDS research and the elimination of homelessness. New clothing, books, household items and more come in every week, making each trip a brand new experience. In addition to their 12 store fronts, you can also participate in auctions online through their website, which offers top notch designer brands for bargain prices.

Explore The Brooklyn Botanical Garden

Date: Tuesday, August 26

What could be better than spending a summer afternoon outside in the beautiful Brooklyn Botanical Garden? Doing it for free! Every Tuesday, the garden opens its doors from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with no admission fee required. Twelve gorgeous gardens will be available to explore. August is a particularly great month to visit the gardens as native wildflowers, orchids and water-lilies are all currently in bloom. Before you leave, stop by the Visitor Center or Gardener's Resource Center to take home some mementos with the money you saved on admission!

Rock Out At The Helen Hayes Theatre

Date: Thursday, August 28

Rock Of Ages is playing this Thursday at the Helen Hayes Theatre. This musical is dedicated to all those rad glam metal bands that dominated the 80's music scene. The play tells the story of aspiring musician Drew Boley as he tries to find his way in a world filled with sex, drug and Rock & Roll. Songs from artists like Styx, Journey, Twisted Sister and Poison seamlessly fit into the show and help to drive the narrative. Tickets in the mezzanine are available for $100 and the show starts at 7:00 p.m.

Country Music Night And Free Shirt Friday At Citi Field

Date: Friday, August 29

Head to Citi Field on Friday, August 29th for a promotions double play. All fans in attendance will receive a free Mets t-shirt as part of Free Shirt Friday. Get to the stadium at 6:00 p.m. for Americana band Spuyten Duyvil performing on Mets Plaza for Country Music Night. After the show, throw on your free shirt and venture inside to watch the Amazin's battle their NL East rivals, the Philadelphia Phillies, as both teams try to claw their way into the postseason. Tickets are available starting at $14.

Stuff Yourself With Bacon

Date: Saturday, August 30

The world is celebrating International Bacon Day this Saturday, and who are you not to partake in the festivities? Come into the Upper East Side's Writing Room for brunch and try The Standard, made up of scrambled eggs, hash browns and smoked bacon. Or, just get their delicious hand cut smoked bacon as a side on any other morning meal. If you come in for lunch or dinner, order The Writing Room Burger. The burger is topped with Vermont cheddar, lettuce, tomato and home-made bacon onion jam all topped, as well as secret sauce and a stack of onion rings. The Writing Room is open from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. then reopens from 5:00 p.m. to midnight on Saturdays.
