Nouvelle Vague By Lancôme Is Turning Boring Makeup Bags Into Chic Clutches
Ladies who love beauty know that it can be hard enough toting around your cosmetic essentials, let alone finding a fashionable makeup bag that goes with your favorite Birkin. We love adding style with on-trend shades and patterns, but Lancôme is about to offer up a serious upgrade to an otherwise boring pouch. In conjunction with Parisian designers and Net-A-Porter, Lancôme is releasing three different limited-edition makeup sets that include L'Absolu Rouge Lipcolor, Hypnôse Star Mascara, the Hypnôse Eye Palette and a cosmetics case that's worthy of being your new go-to clutch.
Three designers, Yiqing Yin, Alexandre Vauthier and Jacquemus, were tapped to each create a bag for the beauty brand, keeping in line with their own unique talents and aesthetics. "I started from the premise that my evening clutch was to become my makeup bag and not the other way around," said Yin of his bold sculptural design. Inspired by women and the juxtaposition between their femininity and strength, he crafted an angular, yet delicate piece, even engraving on Lancôme's signature rose.
Vauthier's design is sleeker, a simple black, almost unassuming clutch. "I like to create balance, the perfect proportions," explains the designer. "I love cold elegance, fire under ice." His pieces, which are described as a "blend of rock seduction and sexy style" were toned down here, making the dark, versatile clutch a staple for cosmetics or a night out.
Jacquemus preferred to tap into a fun and youthful spirit, and created something that could be used no matter the occasion. "[It's] a carry-pouch to be worn like a belt if wrapped around the wrist—a practical, ergonomic accessory," Jacquemus explained. His bright pink pochette seems simple on the outside and opens to reveal an electric blue lining.
The Nouvelle Vague by Lancôme collection is available exclusively on Net-A-Porter and priced from $500-$1,500.
