'Milkshake' To 'Jerk Ribs': The Food-Fueled Growth Of Kelis

You might remember Kelis from her 2003 single "Milkshake," which went on to become a gold record, selling more than 500,000 copies in the United States. "Milkshake" was followed by "Tasty," but her album titles barely scratch the surface of Kelis' real passion for food.

"Food," Kelis' newest studio album, was released on April 18th and features titles like "Jerk Ribs," "Breakfast," "Biscuits n' Gravy," and others. Kelis describes the album as "a kind of unspoken lovefest," but it's not hard to see what's close to the singer's heart.

The album was produced by Dave Sitek, and Kelis told Gigwise, "It was a huge band so people were there and people were hungry so we were eating, recording, singing, and eating some more."

But that's not all. The singer is in fact a trained saucier, graduated from Le Cordon Bleu culinary school, and is working on a cookbook. "Feast," a line of sauces from Kelis, debuted at the Las Vegas Food and Wine Festival in late 2013.

The singer's cooking show, Saucy and Sweet, premiered earlier this year on the Cooking Channel, featuring a dinner celebrating her then-upcoming album.
