We all know what luxe is, but do you know what super luxe is? Picture the ultimate in luxury then super size it. Now imagine it in the form of a luxury cinema and dining experience. That's just what the folks at National Amusements thought of when they created the newly opened Showcase SuperLux in Chestnut Hill.
The high-end movie theater located at The Street has six intimate theaters and offers one of the most unique (and comfortable) experiences for a night out on the town. You can purchase tickets online to either the first few rows of the theater for LuxLite seating ($20) or SuperLux seating located at the rear of the theater ($28); both include a $5 food and beverage voucher and unlimited complimentary popcorn in the SuperLux seating area.
We recently visited the SuperLux to check out World War Z in 3D. When we arrived at our theater with our reserved tickets, we were ushered to our extra-wide leather recliners and presented with an interactive iPad menu where we could order cocktails, drinks, appetizers and entrees created by SuperLux Executive Chef Sean McDonald.
There is plenty of room between each power recliner so you don't feel too close to your neighbor when you are fully stretched out. We loved the personalized 'at your seat' meal and beverage service, complete with full cocktail list, that was available throughout the entire movie. We got started with a margarita and Long Island iced tea before ordering some Thai chicken bites, a delicious, restaurant-quality sampling of sweet and spicy Panko fried chicken with sweet Thai chili glaze.
The dinner menu features a selection of Davio's spring rolls, as the restaurant is also located in the same building. There is a nice variety of salads, including a chopped salad with Korean steak, grilled shrimp or grilled chicken and a seared ahi tuna salad with cilantro-ginger vinaigrette.
We moved right onto the entrees and were glad we did. The lobster campanelle was deliciously rich tossed with fresh lobster, asparagus, sherry and cream. The Korean sirloin steak was char-grilled to a medium-rare perfection, sliced and served with a side of creamy mashed potatoes and crispy frizzled onions. There is also a menu of traditional movie treats available, including all sorts of candies like Snowcaps and Sour Patch Kids. If you need anything else during the movie, simply press the button on your chair for personalized service. After the movie, be sure to check out the SuperLux Lounge, a contemporary cocktail bar in the main theater lobby, for a nightcap.
