National Fruit Recall
(WAOK)- A national recall has affected Costco, Trader Joe's, Walmart, and Kroger stores. The Wawona Packing Co. is recalling peaches, nectarines, plums, and pluots. Internal testing at Wawona revealed the potential Listeria contamination. The facility was shut down and sanitized and subsequent test have been negative for the food-borne illness. Wawona President Brent Smittcamp says they are aware of no illness related to the consumption of these products and recalling the fruit will minimize the slightest risk to public health.
Trader Joe's has notified customers not to eat any fruits with large pits and to return them to a nearby store for a full refund.
In addition, Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. has recalled several of its baked goods that contain Wawona fruit. This includes cakes, pies, tarts and other pastries. For more information on the recall and listeria see FDA.gov
