Make Room In Your Makeup Bag The Derek Lam And Estée Lauder Collection Is Coming
You know all those designer/beauty collaborations you find so gut-wrenchingly perfect? When Tom Ford worked with Estée Lauder before starting his beauty brand, the intense collection of Gareth Pugh for MAC, the short lived Minx for Marc Jacobs—all of them had us pretty excited. But this January we get another reason to stuff our makeup bags with more eye shadows than they can safely handle. Estée Lauder will be releasing the limited-edition Derek Lam collection—which will most likely sell out on the first day.
This is the first big collaboration for Estée Lauder since their work with Tom Ford in 2005, and it seems to be a way to focus the brand toward a younger audience. Lam and creative makeup director of Estée Lauder, Tom Pecheux, have been working together since Lam's runway debut, and formed the collection from their experience backstage. "I've been working with Tom since my very first show and Estée Lauder for the last eight seasons," the designer told WWD. "That longtime involvement is invaluable — we're really working hand in hand."
Working the runways, Pecheux understands the idea of building a look as a day progresses. Moving from day to evening wear during a show means makeup needs to be quick, easy and work well together. Which is exactly the kind of line the duo dreamed up. "It fit into a woman's life — that's what most women do," said Pecheux. "Nobody has time to go back home to shower, to clean and rebuild the makeup. Girls like to add a bit of makeup to start their second part of the day and then the evening."
The collection will be out in January of next year and will be sold as a set of five pieces in a Derek Lam designed black clutch. The set will include a Kajal Crayon in Near Night, The Mascara in Black Black, The EyeShadow in Smoked Gold, The LipColor in Smoked Blush, and The Gloss in Barely Gold. At this point we're marking our calendars and making room in our bathrooms.
