We all enjoy a solid sack, tackle and kick, but things don't always go so well for our teams and at these times we need some comfort food to balance it all out. When it comes to comfort food, there is nothing like Southern cooking; but like the game itself, it is not for the faint of heart. Dense, hearty and delicious come to mind and there are few places that put it all together the way Lulu's Allston does. Whether it is to celebrate a victory, recover from a loss, rebound from a hangover, or simply, take in a few calories before returning to work or studies, you will enjoy the new twist on comfort food that Lulu's offers.
In June, restaurateur Peter Culpo (The Hill Tavern, Woody's Grill & Tap, Parish Café) opened the doors to this fresh American eatery. With the help of Nashville native, chef Sarah Wade, Lulu's has become the hotspot in Alliston for foodies and locals alike. For those who live in Boston, Cambridge or elsewhere, it's definitely worth the trip.

Open Monday through Friday, from 11:30am to 1am and Saturday and Sunday, from 10:30am to 1am, this restaurant and bar is the spot to hit, whether you're trying to cure a hangover, lay down a solid base before downing some brewskies during the game, or just want the best selection of beers and home-cookin' around.
If you're solely in the mood to drink, Lulu's makes it easy to select from their 50 drafts, categorizing the menu by ales, hop focused brews, lagers, ciders, Belgian style or wheat brews and the "Oh you Fancy" section (which includes the rare brews). For those in need of something stronger, they offer an incredible selection of cocktails that no real man will be embarrassed to order, such as the "man-mosa" (a pint glass orange vodka, orange juice, and a champagne float).

If you're intending to take advantage of the innovative, Southern-inspired kitchen creations, the choices are endless; but don't worry, I have some recommendations for you. Be sure to bring your lactose pills if you need them, because you'll have to try Lulu's staples like the Short Rib Mac and Cheese or Smokin' Blonde Beer Cheese Soup (smoked Gouda, IPA, ripped baguette). Or, if you prefer, dive into the White Trash Hash with tater tots or short rib hash; the Hair of the Dog Pancakes with pilsner and bacon batter pancakes, topped with Bloody Mary butter; or even the s'mores pancakes (if you're a sucker for sweets, like me).
No matter what you choose or your reason to go, you are guaranteed to leave happier (and fuller) than when you came in... even if your team loses.
