Living Large: Floating Vacation Home
POTTSBORO (CBSDFW.COM) - It's not just any vacation home. It's floating home on Lake Texoma. Realtor Andrea Bedell with Ebby Halliday Realtors said it's the only one of its kind in Texas. "This is a platted subdivision on water, it is the first and only in Texas," she told CBS 11 News.
The builder plans to construct 150 of them, lining the banks of Lake Texoma. Billed as Luxury On The Lake, the homes are located off of the Harbor Village Resort and Marina in Pottsboro.
Access to the homes is either by the boat or a golf cart. No vehicles area allowed on the walkway connecting the pier to the homes. "You can drive the golf cart to your home," said Bedell.
For people curious about the lake levels, Bedell said the homes are designed to rise and lower with lake levels.
"We adhere the home to a floating structure underneath. The home is then connected to a concrete walkway with a steel plate," she said. The boat slip is anchored with guide poles, all of which keeps the home secured.
The subdivision has an HOA with monthly dues and just like a regular home, owners must pay taxes. "You're gonna have insurance, you're gonna have utilities," said Bedell. "We are not sitting on land, instead we're sitting on water. So there is no land tax but there is an improvement tax."
The 1600 square feet home has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. It costs $297,000 per unit.
The yard is on the right side of each home. It consists of a boat slip to park boat and jet skis. It also has an open deck with unparalled views of the lake.
And, that's Living Large.
