Largest Yacht Ever Built In Netherlands Wins Big At World Superyacht Awards
Madame Gu, an incredible 325-foot custom megayacht from Feadship that ranks as the largest yacht ever built in the Netherlands, just took home top honors at the World Superyacht Awards in Amsterdam. Organized by Boat International, the global yacht brokerage and media conglomerate, the ninth annual edition of the awards given to the world's best and most exclusive superyachts launched in 2013 attracted industry greats and wealthy yachtsmen from around the globe.
Madame Gu, which had been codenamed Project Dream, boasts bespoke features such as a fully enclosed helicopter hangar, Superyacht Times reports. Its owner is reported to be Russian oligarch Andrei Skoch, one of the world's richest men — though he has denied the claim. The yacht is much larger than Musashi, the next biggest Feadship built in 2010 for Oracle billionaire Larry Ellison.
The award for Sailing Yacht of the Year went to the super-stylish 107-foot Inukshuk built by Finland's Baltic Yachts, which is available for charter at about $75,000 per week from Fraser. The award in the largest displacement category went to another astonishing Feadship, the 203.5-foot Sea Owl, which has a Peter Pan-inspired interior design scheme and one of the most elaborate security systems ever installed on a yacht. In the three-deck yacht class of 45m and above, the 213-foot Heesen-built Galactica Star was hands-down the winner with its super-sexy sweeping hull design which can do up to 28.8 knots.
