Jay Lloyd's Getaway: The View's The Thing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A room with a view can dramatically enhance any summer getaway splurge.

It could be as close as an overnight getaway in Philadelphia or as far as a destination vacation abroad, but the view can become the single element that sets the mood.

There are many hotels in Philadelphia, but none with a room's-eye-view as spectacular as the Hyatt Regency on Penn's Landing, with the Delaware River and its collection of historic ships below.

Cape May, "down the shore," offers more than a dozen oceanfront stay-and-play spots, with the Marquis de Lafayette producing some of the best vistas, often including an evening parade of playful dolphins.

But when it comes to the dramatic, nothing beats Niagara Falls (top photo).

"Beautiful. I was not expecting them to be so grand," says one visitor, describing Niagara Falls from a hotel perched atop a Canadian overlook looking straight down into the cascading Niagara River.  Views from the Marriott Fallsview or The Tower can prompt anyone to linger over room service coffee, accompanied by a visual feast.
