Heather Lawton Keeps Us Cool In Chic Furs, Edgy Leathers & Dark Tweeds This Fall
We know it seems like this summer is never-ending, but before you know it we'll finally be able to pull out all those chic coats and waist-whittling tights that we had to pack away ages ago. Now is the perfect time to bring your fall wardrobe up-to-date. One of the newest brands to grab our attention is Heather Lawton, a line of autumnal perfection that is filled with furs, leathers, tweeds and enough cold-weather colors to keep us looking cool all season (see what we did there?). A mix of basics and luxurious attention-grabbing fabrics make the collection easy to add to any closet. And those with a complicated fashion sense (myself included) can pretty much grab one of everything.
Founded by Heather Lawton in 2011, the eponymous brand is getting off to a big start as it goes into its fourth year. Lawton hails from Prince Edward Island in Canada, a far cry from where she is currently based in New York. Growing up an equestrian, Lawton traveled frequently in her youth for world competitions until she chose to settle down and study at the International Academy of Design in Canada. After graduating in 2003, she moved to New York to study at Parsons the New School for Design and Fashion Institute of Technology. Five years later she launched her first collection—a fall/winter line that was heavy on exotic fabrics such as python, crocodile, goat hair and lamb leather.
Today she hasn't strayed far from those first textiles that were such a success. Her debut collection was shown at Toronto LG Fashion Week, and by 2013 she began showing at New York Fashion Week. She's been featured in luxury and fashion publications like WWD, Elle, Teen Vogue and The Cut, and her pieces have even been worn by stars like Lorde. Not that we want to dress like Lorde (okay, yes we do), but that's a pretty awesome accomplishment in four years, and we're pretty sure those leather jackets and layered furs have something to do with it.
A dark, edgy collection, the line is filled with luxury fabrics, clean lines and feminine silhouettes which allow the textiles to do all the talking. It's bold but demure, and if you wear black at all, chances are good you'll find your new favorite piece here somewhere. Personally we're a fan of her fur jackets, but we aren't ones to turn down a sexy leather legging when we see it.
