In the past two years, Bang Bang Pie has established itself as one of the best (if not the best) pie shops in the city. Their rotation of seasonal pies in particular (is it time for pumpkin pie yet?) have set them apart (they serve much more than just pie, btw).
On October 12th, you can find out how good Bang Bang is for yourself by attending their second annual Backyard Dinner, a benefit for Chicago nonprofit Growing Home.
You may have heard of Growing Home already. Maybe because of the great work they do, maybe because I've written about them on more than one occasion (as far as nonprofits go, I really like them).
In case you haven't heard my spiel... Growing Home is a job training organization that works with individuals who've had trouble obtaining work because of a history of incarceration, homelessness or substance abuse. They do this through organic agriculture, having individuals in the program work on their Englewood or Back of the Yards farms. The goal isn't only to teach them skills necessary for employment that they might not have already obtained (that may have arguably been denied to them thanks to economic factors out of their control), Growing Home also tries to pair individuals up with actual jobs.
And on Sunday, food, drinks and entertainment will be provided all in support of Growing Home. The event takes place on October 12th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Tickets are $90. You can find more info here, or read the press release below.
Press Release
The second annual Backyard Dinner at Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits, benefiting local nonprofit Growing Home, will be held Sunday October 12th from 6 to 9 pm.
The intimate event will be a true Logan Square production: chefs Nathan Sears of The Radler, Scott Manley of Table, Donkey and Stick, Chris Davies of Homestead and Patrick Cloud of Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits will be cooking up inspired plates featuring local produce, while our friends from the Whistler will be pouring a signature cocktail.
Drinks from Virtue Cider, Cream Wine Company, Solemn Oath, Atlas and Flesk breweries will also be on hand. Live music provided by local bluegrass (with a twist!) band Odd Folk. The festivities will be topped off with a raffle, giving away a slate of fantastic prizes including farm-to-table dinners, goods from Letherbee Distillers, original art prints and a private sail boat cruise.
It will be a night of local fare, craft drinks and toe-tapping to support Growing Home, whose urban farm-supported social enterprise work is changing lives and engaging communities on the city's Southwest side.
