Gooding & Company Realizes Over $106M & Sets 16 New Records At Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Auction
Gooding & Company saw some pretty big profits last weekend at their two-day Pebble Beach luxury auto auction where they realized over $106 million. The official auction house of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance apparently sold 107 of their 121 lots, with the average price per car being $990,699 (they even sold 30 cars for over one million), and an overall 88 percent sale rate. To make the auction even more impressive, 16 new records were set for Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Porsche.
"In addition to the many record setting prices, our auctions have become renowned as a destination. The tent was packed with enthusiasts buying and selling the best examples while luminaries including Jay Leno and Sir Stirling Moss added to the excitement," says David Gooding, President of Gooding & Company.
The top selling lot was a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider (the one with the coveted covered-headlight), making it the first time a car of this type was up for sale in the past 14 years. After a serious bidding war, the luxury car ended up selling for $15.1 million—a new world record for this car.
The 250 GT SWB California Spider wasn't the only Ferrari to do well though, since the auction also included a "1959 Ferrari 250 GT Series I Cabriolet (sold for: $5,610,000), a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB Long Nose Alloy (sold for: $4,620,000), a 2001 Ferrari 333 SP (sold for: $2,365,000), a 1964 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso (sold for: $2,365,000), a 1956 Ferrari 250 Europa GT (sold for: $2,310,000), a 1964 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso (sold for $2,200,000) and a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT Series II Cabriolet (sold for: $2,090,000)."
Maserati was another marquee to come out on top with the $4.6 million sale of a 1956 Maserati 250F, which was presented by Sir Stirling Moss who drove the winning auto in the 1956 Italian Grand Prix. Jay Leno helped out the $280,000 sale of a 1957 Buick Caballero Estate Wagon and a $825,000 2014 BMW i8.
If you want to check out the next Gooding & Company auction, they will be in Scottsdale on January 16-17, 2015 and at the Amelia Island Auction on March 13, 2015.
