Goin' To The Lake: Jamie & Jason Visit Walker (Day 2)
WALKER, Minn. (WCCO) — August is halfway over, and Minnesotans are soaking up all the summer they can before fall arrives. We've been celebrating the season by Goin' to the Lake every week. And now, we're sad to say, we're bringing a full season of trips to a close.
This week, Jamie Yuccas and Jason DeRusha headed to Walker, Minn., which is known for its many things to do outdoors.
Walker is about three-and-a-half-hours northwest of the Twin Cities. It's home to about 1,000 people year round, and that obviously goes up in the summer months.
Remember when the two of them went tubing earlier this summer? Well, the two of them were back in the water to try out something cool — bikes on the water! The folks at Chase on the Lake were trusting enough to let them take out their jet skis and their water bikes. Being highly competitive, the two of them had to challenge each other to race. See who won below!

Wild rice is something people in Northern Minnesota are very familiar with. There's a cool shop near Walker here that carries it in just about any form you can imagine. Christmas Pointe Wild Rice is family owned and has been around for about 30 years.
It started as a tiny mom and pop gift shop and has continued to grow – and they have a store in Baxter.
Actually, a number of businesses in the area are family owned, which got Jamie thinking about her own memories growing up vacationing in Walker. So she took a trip to say hello to her aunt Ruthie.

The Walker area also has lots of history, and a great place to showcase it all. The two stopped by the Cass County Historical Society to learn about everything from how trappers lived to the early days of the lumbering industry. There's also a showcase of intricate beading work from the Ojibwe and Dakota Tribes along with a replica of an American Indian Village.
