Even if you are not an actor, singer or dancer, there are many ways you can get involved in the local community theatre scene. With tasks as easy as addressing and stuffing envelopes to building and painting sets, there are plenty of opportunities available to grow your love of the theatre.

It is currently looking for a volunteer that is an experienced grant writer to help obtain general funding as well as volunteers proficient in Microsoft Office to provide office help.

www.dct.orgThe Dallas Children's Theater utilizes volunteers as young as 13 years old. Ushering opportunities are available for volunteers from age 13 on up. The duties include taking tickets, handing out programs and clean up after the performance, but it isn't all work. Ushers receive free admission to the performance and discounted tickets for those they bring along (family and friends). For volunteers ages 16 and older, there is office work and miscellaneous projects. This is a great way to get office experience. Workday experiences are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and include free lunch.

www.kitchendogtheater.orgKitchen Dog Theater is looking for assistance in tearing down sets, also known as striking a set, for its upcoming fall season, which begins in September. It is requesting that you have some carpentry experience, are willing to commit to at least two hours and RSVP so that the organization can plan accordingly to have sufficient help. In addition to striking duty, Kitchen Dog always accepts volunteers for front- and back-of-the-house operations including ushering, box office help and administration duties. The Art Centre Theatre in Plano is looking for people to come in clothing that "you don't mind getting dirty" to lend a hand in creating sets for their upcoming performances. Using a hammer, drill or painting and cleaning are just a few of the tasks that need to be completed. It is a great feeling to be able to say, "I helped build that."

Mr. Singleton provided free drums and piano lessons to students during the Center's summer camp program. In creating the second year of this event, volunteers are needed to help build and strike the stage.
