Fly Through The Desert On The Aero-X Hover Bike Like A Jedi
If you're looking for a cool way to celebrate the upcoming Star Wars sequels, allow us to present the Aero-X hover bike — well, you'll have to wait until 2017 to actually get one, but stop being picky. Engineering company Aerofex has come up with this innovative and futuristic bike (which was first debuted back in 2007 as a prototype) that will apparently be able to fly up to 10 feet off the ground at speeds of 45mph. You better start planning those Star Wars-themed desert races now.
The two-seater hovercraft will be able to fly you around for 75 minutes straight, which is a pretty long time for average every-day use. To pull off the height, speed, and duration, the Aero-X will have a carbon fiber frame and fan blades, with the power stemming from three 240hp rotary engines.
Since Aerofex compares the operation of the bike akin to that of a motorcycle, you won't need a pilot's license or any sort of flight training at all to fly/drive this thing. Running off the same gas you put in your car, the Aero-X will take off and land vertically, meaning that you won't need a runway.
"Because the Aero-X is intuitive to fly, you can learn to operate it safely in just a weekend of training. It responds to your movements just as a motorcycle would. And it costs a fraction of even the most basic airplane or helicopter. Maintenance is simple and inexpensive, as the Aero-X is built with very few moving parts and is powered by a reliable rotary engine," affirms the company.
As of May 1, Aerofex released the price as $85,000, but that may change depending on how the manufacturing process goes. You can secure yourself one by putting down a deposit of $5,000 and six months before delivery they will contact you for the rest of the amount.
