The Egg McMuffin Has Become The Go-To Side Dish At McDonald's
After years of pleas from customers, McDonald's finally caved to the pressure last year and launched all-day breakfast — and a new lunch and dinner side dish has been born.
And while McDonald's workers have complained that the updated menu requires more work than it's worth, company executives and customers alike have been thrilled with the results, which means it's likely here to stay.
Lately, the burger company has noticed an even stronger sign of the Egg McMuffin's staying power — its popularity as a de facto side dish with lunch and dinner orders.
"Believe it or not, you may find some people order a lunch entree and ordering a Egg McMuffin sandwich as an add-on," Kevin Ozan, McDonald's chief financial officer, said during a conference earlier this week.
That's great news for McDonald's, which reported earlier this year that the company was seeing its best performance in the U.S. since 2012, thanks to its decision to expand its popular breakfast menu.
