The Capital Grille Rolls Out 'Wagyu & Wine' Burger Pairing Through Nov. 20

The Capital Grille regularly rolls out some surprisingly affordable deals, like its "Generous Pour" in summer, and its newest offering, available through Nov. 30, certainly fits the bill. It's called "Wagyu & Wine," and it allows guests to pair their choice of three Wagyu beef burgers with one of two glasses of wine for just $25.

Burgers are available in three varieties and are made with beef from Snake River Farms, arguably the country's finest purveyor of Wagyu beef. One is topped with havarti, a fried egg, and crispy onions; one with wild mushrooms and 15-year-aged balsamic vinegar; and one with caramelized onions, Jarlsberg cheese, and shallot mayonnaise. They can be paired with a glass of 2013 Duckthorn Vineyards cabernet sauvignon or 2013 Gondeneye pinot noir, both from California.

We were invited to come sample the burgers, and they're as tasty as you can imagine. The toppings are all flavorful and play the role perfectly, but they don't overpower the clean, rich flavor of the beef, which really is the star of the show. Our 8-ounce burgers were also cooked to a perfect medium-rare with a nice char from the broiler.

Just to get an idea of how good a deal this is, Snake River Farms typically sells its ground beef at $69 retail for 5 pounds, and if you wanted to sample Capital Grille's regular cheeseburger, it would cost $20. So not only do you get a truly top-notch gourmet burger and a glass of wine that's hard to find by the glass, you can do so at a price that won't break the bank.
