Make It a Green Tea!
According to Dr. John Salerno, MD of The Salerno Center, green tea contains EGCG, which boosts metabolism and is ideal for weight loss. He recommends looking for organic teas with no added sugar or artificial sweeteners to get the best source of EGCG.
Jasmine Green Tea
Pooja Mottl, author of The 3 Day Reset, has high praise for this green tea variation: “For those unfamiliar with the flavor of green tea or those who find it too bitter, this kind of green tea offers a more palatable alternative as the beautiful, strong aroma and flavor of jasmine offsets the bitterness and at the same time, captivates the senses.”
Sweeten With Cinnamon
Dr. Salerno recommends sweetening your pure, organic tea with cinnamon, as the spice is known to reduce blood sugar.
Vitamin C Is A Happy Addition
Adding vitamin-C packed citrus to tea can assist with detoxing the digestive system, says Dr. Salerno.
Sweet Tea Can Still Be Healthy
Pooja Mottl recommends mint as the perfect compliment to black tea, and the dash of whole and minimally processed maple syrup will balance the tea’s overall flavor.
Tea Doesn’t Have To Be Hard To Find
If you’re closer to a Costco than an organic teashop, there’s no need to panic or break the bank. For a healthy, commercially available tea, Dr. Salerno recommends Lipton because it’s pure and has no sugars added.
Beware Sugar Trap Teas
Since tea is the current drink craze, there are a lot of bottled sugar bombs masquerading as “healthy” teas. When you can, make your own, but if you do buy your tea from the corner store, read the label carefully to make sure your tea isn’t packed with the same unhealthy artificial sweeteners you just gave up in diet soda.
