While you sleep, you dehydrate. It is essential to wake up and drink something (hopefully water) to replenish your body. But after careful research, we have discovered that the world’s most famous people don’t always wake up and chug H20. In fact, many of them start their mornings with coffee, smoothies, juices, and tea. We can’t say for sure that their beverage choices directly relate to their successes — but we can’t say for sure that they don’t!

Drinking like a celebrity every morning may not make you as rich, powerful, or famous as they are. Making Gwyneth Paltrow’s $200 smoothie may make your skin glow, but it will make your bank account fade. You definitely shouldn’t have as many cans of Diet Coke as Bill Gates enjoys at the office, and Selena Gomez’s morning health tonic might make your throat burn.

No, you won’t become an international pop star or coffee chain CEO overnight by chugging these drinks, but you will have something in common with the world’s most famous people by drinking as they do every morning.

Gwyneth Paltrow made headlines with a recipe for a morning smoothie that costs almost $200, which her Goop website says she drinks “every morning, whether or not she’s detoxing.” Ingredients include Moon Juice Vanilla Mushroom Adaptogenic Protein, Maca, Ashwagandha, He Shou Wu, Cordyces, pink mountain salt, and Moon Juice dusts.

Bill Gates detailed on his personal blog GatesNotes, that once he gets to his office in the morning, he drinks a can of Diet Coke. The multi-billionaire says, “over the course of the day I might drink three or four.” While he also mentioned that that adds up to around 35 pounds of aluminum a year, he forgot to mention how much artificial sweetener he is drinking… spoiler alert, it’s a lot. Switch to hot water with lemon Bill!

The man who made Starbucks what it is today begins his mornings with a cup of coffee from his own brand. “I get up between 5 and 5:30, and naturally the first thing I do is make some coffee,” he revealed to CNN Money. “Depending on my mood, it's either an espresso macchiato or one of our Indonesian coffees in a French press.”

One of the world’s best athletes, Venus Williams, fuels up every morning with a smoothie of her own invention made with Silk almond milk, banana, protein powder, and avocado. She told Bon Appétit: "It's healthy, it takes on the flavor of anything in there, and it really sticks to your ribs."

Anthony Bourdain

Bad boy chef and TV host Anthony Bourdain has two cups of coffee every morning. While he doesn’t take it black, his description of how he likes his coffee is exactly how you thought it would be. The Parts Unknown star revealed to Bon Appétit: “There are few things I care about less than coffee. I have two big cups every morning: light and sweet, preferably in a cardboard cup. Any bodega will do. I don’t want to wait for my coffee. I don’t want some man-bun, Mumford and Sons motherf*cker to get it for me. I like good coffee but I don’t want to wait for it, and I don’t want it with the cast of Friends. It’s a beverage; it’s not a lifestyle.”

Whereas Sex and the City viewers know there are few things Miranda loves more than a cup of coffee, Nixon is a big fan of tea. “All different kinds, both iced and hot, green, jasmine, lemongrass and fruity black tea (but the English kind, so it’s very strong),” she told The New Potato.
