DC's Old Ebbitt Grill Scores 3rd In Nation's Highest-Grossing Independent Restaurants
Pulling in an estimated $26.6M in sales annually has landed Washington DC's very own Old Ebbitt Grill the third place in a list of America's 100 highest-grossing independent eateries compiled by Restaurant Business Magazine. With a surprisingly low check average total of just $40, the restaurant ranked above much pricier establishments like Smith & Wollensky in New York City (with an average check of $92) and Prime 112 in Miami Beach (checks averaging at $115). Established in 1856, Old Ebbitt Grill is certainly one of DC's oldest restaurants. They buy as much produce as possible from local farms and source most of their meat, seafood and poultry from its native area.
Old Ebbitt Grill's sister restaurant, The Hamilton, scored number 15 by making $17.8M with an average check amount of $45.
