Curiocity: Mike's Mix – Pickle In The Middle
Every Friday, Mike Augustyniak picks up a new cocktail recipe from a local mixologist. This week, he's tackling the "Pickle In The Middle" from Minneapolis' Marché.
Pickle in the Middle
1.5 oz. Gamle Ode Dill Aquavit
.5 oz. Gordon's Gin
.75 oz. Cocchi Americano Blanc (similar to Lillet Blanc)
.5 oz. Lemon Juice
2 dashed salt-water solution (or a little pickle juice)
Seltzer water topper
Shake all ingredients (sans seltzer). Strain over ice, top off with seltzer, garnish with cornishon.
Taste Test
This dill aquavit — sold by Gamle Ode out of Minneapolis, and distilled 45th Parallel in New Richmond, Wis. — is infused with 7 pounds of dill per bottle. If you think that sounds intense, you're not alone; I did too. Ultimately, though, I found this to be an easy sipping cocktail that just has the hint of dill. Substitute a little pickle brine for the salt-water solution if you're feeling adventurous.
