Copenhagen's d'Angleterre Hotel Completes Final Phase Of Multimillion-Dollar Revamp
The historic Hotel d'Angleterre in Copenhagen, Scandinavia's grandest and most luxurious hotel, has unveiled the final phase of its three-year, multimillion-dollar renovations. The Danish landmark, a member of the Leading Hotels of the World, was established in 1775 and has occupied its current location since 1875. It was given a full makeover bringing it in to the 21st century while retaining and restoring its important history.

Highlights include all new rooms and suites, a new restaurant helmed by a Michelin starred chef, Copenhagen's first Champagne bar, a new Nordic spa, fitness center, ballroom and the city's only indoor swimming pool. The hotel's original 123 guest rooms have been reconfigured into 60 gracious rooms and 30 suites. Accommodations are finished with luxurious textiles, thick carpets, silk wall coverings, marble and stone bathrooms, and Bang & Olufsen entertainment systems.
In addition, two enormous, ultra-luxe suites were inaugurated. The 3,000-square-foot Royal Suite, overlooks one of the city's most classic squares, with Biedermeier vitrines converted into lavish clothes closets, while the Karen Blixen Suite was designed in homage to the famed Danish author of Out of Africa.
The palatial building's original 140-year-old architectural details such as its grand fireplaces, Art Nouveau cornices, light fixtures and the gilded dome over its entrance have been restored to their former glory. These furnishings have been offset by palates of grey, lilac and white with art lining the hotel walls ranging from antiques to Andy Warhols. The new restaurant was created by the young and already celebrated chef Ronny Emborg, and the Balthazar bar offers 160 types of bubbly. For recreation there's the Amazing Space d'Angleterre spa and its 2,000-square-foot tile and marble swimming pool.
