Brand New InterContinental Davos' Futuristic Façade Shines Among Switzerland's Alps

It's hard to miss the new InterContinental Davos in the Graubünden Alps, which just opened this past December, primarily because its futuristic façade mimics a golden egg set on its side. Surrounded by forests, the hotel has nestled itself at the foot of Flüela Pass near Lake Davos in one of Switzerland's' most popular ski resorts.

The luxury resort's dome is made up of 790 gold-colored steel elements that are illuminated at night by the many windows sprinkled throughout the property.
Davos' 216 guestrooms are a mixture of modern design and sleek décor, a shift from the classic ski lodge aesthetic. The suites feature bold royal purple wing-backed chairs, floor-to-ceiling windows, a separate living room, kitchenette, and a work desk among other amenities.
Diners can enjoy any of three restaurants inside the hotel including Studio Grigio, the top-floor restaurant with breath-taking views; Matsu, a Far East gourmet experience; and Capricorn which serves regional dishes from South Tyrol, Savoy, and Piedmont.
Integrating the local environment into InterContinental Alpine SPA, the hotel's treatment rooms and pool areas are designed with natural rocks and herbs. The spa offers an outdoor pool, steam room, gym, and sauna in 12,900 square feet of space. Pale browns, beiges and gold set the tone while large hanging chandeliers trickle down from the ceiling.
Business travelers can also take advantage of their extensive conference facilities and state-of-the-art technology equipment. As a popular event destination, the hotel hopes to become a new gathering place for those traveling for the many events and forums held in the city.
The upscale chalet is heated with 90 percent renewable energy and is built with locally and regionally-sourced materials, reinforcing its strong focus on environmental sustainability. Rooms begin at around USD $490 per night.
