Best Ways To Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month In Atlanta
The traditional means of celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month is to enjoy the cuisine, dance and Latin festivals in the area. This year, the usual touchstones will be out of reach as "Fiesta Georgia" takes a year-long hiatus and "Festival Peachtree Latino" concludes in August. However, there are still many creative options available.
Latin Fever Ball
InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta
3315 Peachtree Road N.E.
Atlanta, GA 30326
www.thelaa.org
Date: Oct. 11, 2014
This is the 26th year of the Latin Fever Ball hosted by the Latin American Association. This year's theme is the Dominican Republic with the subtitle "Discover a New World." The gala event includes a three-course dinner, bar, silent auction and live music by Orquesta Nova Sound. All proceeds go toward the Latin American Association, but the $275 price tag and 21-and-over policy will certainly mean that this event is not for everyone. Still, this has become the most notable Hispanic Heritage-themed event of the season.
Hartsfield-Jackson Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
6000 N. Terminal Parkway
Atlanta, GA 30320
(800) 897-1910
www.atlanta-airport.com
Dates: Oct. 4, 10 and 11, 2014
While the Hartsfield airport is not a place to casually visit, during Fridays of Hispanic Heritage Month it will be hosting a concert series in the Atrium. Considering that this location is the first and last impression of the Atlanta for many tourists, music programming is a great taste of local culture. Area high schoolers of Hispanic descent will also be invited to participate in a program called "Preserving Culture Through Leadership" on the 10th of October.

Havana Club
3112 Piedmont Road
Atlanta, GA 30305

This nightclub used to be a small salsa club, but has since exploded. This location in Atlanta has been around for nearly two decades. While Havana Club doesn't always offer salsa dancing, keeping an eye on its event schedule online will provide a dance spot that doesn't require reservations or great expense compared to the other options on the list.
La Suprema Bakery
815 Roswell St. N.E.
Marietta, GA 30060
(678) 797-1120
La Suprema Bakery is a simple way to celebrate Hispanic Heritage every day of the Hispanic Heritage Month. La Suprema is actually one of two locations, each of which provides an enviable selection of baked goods. Cookies, cakes and muffins are the specialty and are all authentically made. This is a great option for strangers to Hispanic culture because items like "Pinguinos" are at once familiar and exotic. In that particular case, expect a larger, fresher version of a Little Debbie Cupcake. They are also responsive to their local needs as evidenced by the addition of a burrito-making station for lunch.
