Ann Arbor, MI 48104
(734) 369-4734
www.thewafelshop.com

You can find The Wafel Shop in downtown Ann Arbor, about a block from Main Street, and its name is literal: it's a shop that (mostly) only serves waffles. Start off with a Liege wafel ("dense and chewy, with Belgian pearl sugar") or a Brussels wafel ("crispy exterior, light, buttery, fluffy interior") for $5 each, and then toppings are a la carte. You can also choose from a variety of savory or sweet options listed on the menu for a preset price of $8-$11, such as The Expatriate (savory: pulled BBQ chicken, aged cheddar) or The Belgian Elvis (sweet: bacon, Biscoff, banana). Wafel sandwiches and grilled panini are also available.

Social Kitchen
225 E. Maple Road
Birmingham, MI 48009
(248) 594-4200
www.socialkitchenandbar.com

Social Kitchen is located in downtown Birmingham and has two waffle dishes from which to choose. From the brunch menu, choose from the regular waffles (spiced shortcrust biscuit, pecans, banana, maple syrup – $12) or the chicken and waffles with a maple-bacon glaze ($10). If you're at Social Kitchen for lunch or dinner instead, you can still order the chicken and waffles – it's available as an appetizer. The restaurant offers rooftop dining for those sunny summer days, as well as indoor seating.

Southfield, MI 48076
(248) 559-5985

Sweet Lorraine's has two locations, one in Southfield and one in Livonia at Laurel Park Place, but only the Southfield location offers breakfast. There are three choices of waffles, from $8.50 to $9. Choose from a chocolate chip waffle (even topped with chocolate chips), a sticky pecan waffle with toasted pecans and a caramel glaze or the fresh berries waffle. Sweet Lorraine's waffles are Belgian and all are served with real whipped cream and Michigan maple syrup. This location is located near the intersection of 12 Mile Road and Greenfield.

Angelo's
1100 Catherine St.
Ann Arbor, MI 48104
(734) 761-8996
www.angelosa2.com

Even though Angelo's is not close to any other "touristy" parts of Ann Arbor, there is still always a line for its fantastic breakfast. It's located at the corner of Glen and Catherine, near UM's medical campus, and is a tiny place that you might overlook at first. Its waffles range from $6.25 to $6.75, and you can choose from unflavored, strawberry, blueberry, cinnamon raisin or chocolate chip. You can also add ham, bacon, sausage or Canadian bacon for $1.50 extra. Real maple syrup and sugar-free maple syrup are also available. If your dining companion is more of a pancake fan, the same varieties are available for its pancakes as well.
