You may only know Seva for its Ann Arbor location, but it also has a downtown Detroit location. Its yam fries (served with spicy mayo or vegan BBQ sauce), most salads, cilantro-peanut stir fry and more are all vegan, and some other dishes may be ordered vegan as well. Check out Seva's happy hour (4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Detroit location only) which includes small plates and drink specials, and brunch specials on Sundays until 3 p.m. A kids' menu and a gluten-free menu is also served.

Inn Season Cafe is perhaps Royal Oak's most well-known vegan and vegetarian restaurant, and it's located a few blocks north of all of the regular Main Street hubbub. Its pizzas can be made with vegan daiya cheese, and so can its (vegetarian) burgers, which are served with coleslaw, blue corn chips and sauce. Try the cafe's spaghetti and noodle dishes as well, or a salad or appetizer to start off.

Brooklyn Street Local is located in Corktown and focuses on "local, organic ingredients, and whole foods." Many of its toppings and ingredients are made in-house, such as the BSL spicy maple mustard, salad dressings, tempeh marinade, veggie and chicken soup stocks, fries, hummus and more. Stop by for breakfast, lunch or brunch (Saturday and Sunday only, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.), and check out both the vegan and vegetarian-friendly dishes on the menu, such as the kale salad, vegan poutine, Jay's Grilled Cheese, Ashley's Veggie Burger and more.

Earthen Jar is located in downtown Ann Arbor, near the corner of E. Liberty and S. 5th Ave., and is a mostly vegan Indian buffet for dine-in or carry-out, priced at $6.99 per pound. There are hot buffet items, such as channa masala (chick peas in a thick, spicy tomato and herb masala sauce), cold buffet items and sweets and desserts. For dessert, try the vegan banana pudding or any of the vegan baked goods, such as cupcakes, bars, cakes and pies.

Detroit Vegan Soul opened in 2013 as Detroit's "first vegan soul food cafe" in the West Village. The restaurant makes comfort foods using only fresh, mostly organic and completely plant-based ingredients. Soy-free and gluten-free options are also available. Try the collard green spring rolls or fry basket to start, and then go with the soul platter (mac 'n cheese, smoked collard greens, maple-glazed yams, black-eyed peas, cornbread muffins) or the seitan pepper steak. House-made hibiscus punch and lemonade is offered as well, or try one of the varieties of smoothies ($7) like the choco banana split (strawberry, pineapple, banana, carob, hemp, and almond milk).
