During the Battle of Baltimore, the famous Francis Scott Key sat in a boat in the waters outside of Baltimore and watched with anxiety as the British bombarded Fort McHenry from the water. As the gunpowder burst over the Fort, it afforded Key with brief glimpses of the American Flag flying over the fort. He knew that at any moment, that flag might disappear and be replaced by the British flag, signaling the loss of the Fort, and soon, of Baltimore.

Of course, the flag stood firm, and Key, in exaltation, penned a poem about the event that would become the National Anthem.

This Labor Day, relive this experience for yourself with the Fort McHenry Boat Tour, which takes participants across the waters looking upon the Fort and shares some of the history and the battle events that were immortalized in the lyrics of our Anthem.

Departing daily on the hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., this fun sailing experience gives you a 35-minute excursion which makes for a fun Labor Day afternoon experience bringing Baltimore history alive.
