Best Shopping Along DFW's Henderson Avenue

DFW is renown for its dazzling array of mega malls, but insiders know that some of the best shopping can be found in lesser-known locations, including the Knox-Henderson area. While Knox Street is filled with trendy designer boutiques and furniture stores, a recently transformed Henderson Avenue offers shoppers something more unique with everything from vintage frocks to antique home decor. A perfect way to explore the street is to start your journey with a visit to these five treasure-filled shops.

Mother-daughter team Renata Holder and Carrie Jepsen's two-story consignment shop offers a little bit of everything for mid-century modern and vintage shoppers. Expect to find retro cabinets, lamps and mosaic tables, along with fabulous modern elements mixed in. The shop also has a nice collection of smaller items, such as china, vases, hand-crafted jewelry, purses and even candles. But the spotlight here is on the art. A rotating gallery of artwork by local artists includes finds like Paul Aldred stained glass hangings and mixed media on canvas pieces by Holder herself. Even more spectacular are the prices that start at $8 and go up to $1,900.

The 12,000-square-foot gallery of rooms filled with French antique and reproduction treasures makes the Whimsey Shoppe seem more like a museum than an antique store. For over 20 years, Suzie and Wendell Patterson have spent their time traveling back and forth to France, bringing back everything from armoires, dining tables and hand-painted ceramics to chandeliers, vintage copper cookware and decorative accessories. The collections, ranging from charming to exquisite, are so vast that the Pattersons needed two locations to house it all. So if you don't find what you're looking for at the Henderson location, head over to 1444 Oak Lawn where more whimsies await
