The Growlers Reuben sandwich was voted best sandwich in Charlotte by the Charlotte Observer in 2012. It's a combination of corned beef (or turkey), Gruyere cheese, juniper berry sauerkraut and a sweet, tangy, purple caraway seed slaw with a house-made sriracha Russian dressing piled onto marbled rye. The sandwich is then grilled on a sandwich press. It's tasty, salty, sweet, spicy and messy, but worth every drip.

Pinky's Westside Grill

Ding Dong Chicken at Pinky's is a delicious concoction that starts with a Thai spice-marinated chicken breast. The chicken is grilled, thrown on a bun with a crunchy peanut butter/sriracha sauce and honey-cilantro slaw. Delicious doesn't begin to do justice to describing this type of perfect sandwich. The sauce gives it a slow burn, not enough to set your mouth on fire, just the right amount. And the slaw adds a crunchy highlight to help cool things down.

Le's Sandwich Shop
4520 N. Tryon St.
Charlotte, NC
(704) 921-7498

Le's makes the best Banh Mi in Charlotte. Unfortunately, the shop is located in a run-down shopping center with a parking lot filled with potholes the size of craters. It's like something out of a "Mad Max" movie. If you are willing to take a chance, your reward is a fabulous banh mi. French bread, pickled onions and carrots, cilantro, cucumber and grilled marinated pork (the #6) are put together in the perfect proportion. The café only accepts cash, so make sure you stop at an ATM first.
