Kupros is that beautiful Victorian building that has been open for a few years but has never really reached its full potential. Now, with Chef Martin Hutton at the helm in the kitchen, the future has never looked brighter. Add to this the fact that it recently reinvented itself from bistro to craft house; the bar has seen new life with a concentration on the craft beer side. The new menu is fresh and bright with a brunch that rivals some of the best a la carte brunch menus in town. During the Oktoberfest season this year, Chef Martin will be preparing a chicken schnitzel with fingerlings in parsley butter and cranberry jam. Also on the menu will be a beer braised bratwurst with spaetzel, bacon and cabbage, and, as Chef Martin mentioned, "Don't forget the pretzels!" Check with the restaurant for exact dates on these menu items (probably all of October) and be sure to stop by as Chef Martin and his team are working diligently to put Kupros on the map for Sacramento.

Here is a place still in its infancy as far as restaurants and bars go. In the words of Michael Hargis, one of the proprietors, "It's like every day is Oktoberfest at Lowbrau." A truer statement could not be made in regards to the feel of this neighborhood gem. The food and beer list both reflect what others only display once per year in regards to German eats and drinks. Lowbrau will be involved with Sacramento's second annual Sactoberfest celebration. The bar is guaranteed to have specials on both beer and food in addition to entertainment. Stop by any day of the week and try some of the delicious sausages and German beers.

The Turn Verein Oktoberfest celebration is a Sacramento staple in its 47th year, and one that will likely always make this list. Accordionists will be walking the crowd while The Alpentänzer Schuhplattler performs German dances. The Gruber Family Band will perform on the main stage and the rock band AKA Live will play in the upstairs Festhalle. Of course, there will be offerings of German beer and food. This event is no doubt the truest to form you will find in town.

Der BierGarten is the relatively new kid on the block. It's outdoors so that means don't bother coming if it's raining outside. Owner Sean Derfield said that from September 18 until October 16, there will be specials every night. All 32 tap handles will represent an Oktoberfest-themed beer, many of which are normally difficult to get your hands on and only available during this time of year. During this four-week marathon of German celebration, each week will also feature a different beer and stein special where guests can get a discounted German beer and pretzel.
