Sometimes the most exciting football games are not in the NFL, but rather at the college level. Proud of their naval heritage, people across the state of Maryland tune in to see the boys of the United States Naval Academy defend their turf against schools across the nation. Autumn is jam-packed with Navy games, starting in October. On October 11, watch as Navy takes on another proud military school, the Virginia Keydets. Two weeks later, the boys rally to square off against the San Jose Spartans. Then watch on the first of November as Navy tackles the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, then on November 15, the Georgia Southern Eagles. The NCAA is a league full of electric excitement, and the local team delivers the goods every season.

Nothing brings people together more than participation sports. Sports are about friendly competition and teamwork. It's fitting, then, that Best Buddies Maryland offers an exciting and challenging 5K and 1-mile "Fun Run" at Oregon Ridge Park on Saturday, November 15, to bring the community out and to support the effort to offer friendship and support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Despite the charity nature of the event, Best Buddies has pulled out all of the stops, offering prizes for winners, and after the race, live music, food and a variety of relaxing and fun post-race activities. Enjoy a brisk fall run with the knowledge that you aren't just proving your own athletic prowess, but also supporting a worthy cause.

Autumn in Baltimore is a beautiful time of year. As the air begins to take on that subtle briskness, it's the perfect time to get outside and exercise, knowing that the atmosphere will cool you even as you burn the calories. And what better time to burn calories than during the Thanksgiving season? This is why the Gobble Cobble Turkey Trot is the perfect sport for Baltimoreans to take on.
