Best Bars To Watch The U.S. Open In DFW

The U.S. Open Tennis Championships start Saturday, Aug. 23 and run through Monday, Sept. 1. There are several great bars in the DFW area worth visiting if you want to get the best seat in the house for viewing the tournament.

A neighborhood bar feel with a friendly atmosphere is what you get at World Of Beer. The Arlington location off I-20 and Cooper near the UT Arlington campus is two stories tall. The SMU location next to Torchy's Tacos is a smaller, very welcoming place. Running the length of the bar are television screens. In the center are 41 different draft beers. If that isn't enough, flanking each side of the draft beers are two very large glass-enclosed coolers with over 500 different canned and bottled beers. This beer lover's paradise is complete with live trivia games and good food that includes vegan options.

August is "Some Like It Hot" month at Torchy's Tacos. That means every week in the month of August a new taco will be introduced. Each week gets progressively hotter with the featured taco during the U.S. Open week being "The Scalding Pig," which is 32 times hotter than the first week's taco. It is served with Ghost and Pasilla peppers and a "dare-to-go-there" dropper for the sauce. Think it is too hot? Not to worry, Torchy's has plenty of cocktails and the frozen margarita is a winner to help cool down the effects of the ghost peppers. While heating up and cooling down, one can watch the U.S. Open on five large screens throughout the family-friendly restaurant and bar area at the SMU location.

This great "after work" bar and restaurant has patio seating with outdoor bar service along with tables and booths indoors. The Addison location is just minutes away from Brookhaven Country Club, which is known for its tennis programs. The Social House is a great place to kick back with friends or a date and enjoy the U.S. Open. Screens? There are too many to count, and the food, which includes starters like tomato bruschetta with basil pesto, edamame, roasted garlic hummus and pita bread, are excellent.

Smacking your lips around mouthwatering barbecue while watching the U.S. Open in the dining room can be a fun family experience. You can also saunter up to the bar and select from 36 beers on tap. The barbecue isn't the only thing that is mouthwatering. The 3 Stacks kale salad tossed with lemon pepper dressing is a light, healthy dish. With 25 screens throughout the establishment, you can sit back and view the matches anywhere in the place.

Traditionally a New Orleans-style bar, The Quarter fully embraces all sports (not just The Saints). The Quarter features outside patio seating, inside courtyard seating, rooftop seating, traditional indoor bar seating and indoor casual "living room" style seating complete with a pool table and a floor-size Connect Four game. Ten televisions are mounted throughout The Quarter so there isn't a bad seat in the house. The New Orleans-inspired cocktails include the Voodoo Queen (Vodka, Blue Curacao, Razz Berry and sweet and sour), booze pops (think ice pops with alcohol) and adult slushies (Jack Daniels and Coke). One should never drink on an empty stomach, so food is available from the sister establishment next door, Bread Winners Café, which is celebrating 20 years of feeding Dallas.
