"Ordinary People by Extraordinary Artists: Works in Paper by Degas, Renoir and Friends" is an exhibition at the DIA featuring works of highly-regarded artists who transformed the way the world looked at art. The work showcased is from the impressionist period, known for its movement and feelings, instead of precise details. Impressionists sought to capture instead the essence of the subjects, not an exact replica. Kids will enjoy feeling like they are looking at a series of dreams, since the work is often "blurry." After checking out the exhibit, let your child explore the other galleries using the "I Spy" clues installed throughout the museum.

"Warhol on Vinyl" features classic album covers created by pop art master Andy Warhol. This is an exhibition that will appeal to children while introducing them to art appreciation on a whole other level. Kids will love the bright colors and graphics indicative of Warhol's work. From the giant banana depicted on the Velvet Underground's album, to the iconic face of Aretha Franklin, done up in bold strokes of neon, Warhol laughed in the face of conventional art by showing audiences that art doesn't have to be so serious. It can be playful and that is something kids can relate to.

Introduce kids to the art world with a visit to MOCAD. The smaller-scale exhibition spaces offer kids an introduction to art in an intimate setting. The contemporary art on display is always compelling, even for younger kids. "People's Biennial" showcases work by respected artists and their acquaintances, who are themselves creative, but not renown for their artistic talent. The two joined forces and collaborated on a piece, producing work that shows children that art can come from unexpected places and experiences, and doesn't need to be displayed within the confines of a traditional frame. Once a month, MOCAD hosts a Family Day featuring artists and their creations; kids are encouraged to attend and can participate in activities. Get the chance to explore planes at a cutting-edge aviation, aerospace museum and education center located at the Willow Run Airport. The Yankee Air Museum features a collection of working aircraft and stationary planes. Explore the history of flight in Michigan in the 47,000 square feet of space dedicated to the museum, which holds both permanent and an evolving displays of aircraft. There are three working airplanes, a '43 Mitchell and two made in 1944 (a Boeing and a Mitchell), and many stationary models like a Huey, Voodoo, Phantom II and Thunderflash, among others.
