Best 2014 Veterans Day Events In Minnesota

World War I is said to have ended at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day in the eleventh month 1918 A.D. We have been honoring veterans of war on that day of the year since November 11, 1919, when Woodrow Wilson declared it an official holiday. Nations throughout the world also recognize war veterans this day, sometimes calling it Armistice Day or Remembrance Day. 'Beyond the Divide'
Date: Nov. 9, 2014 at 2 p.m.

Salute Vietnam vets at the first Midwest showing of a new 88-minute documentary by Jan Selby. Missoula, Montana was torn by conflict for decades due to a large and mysterious graffiti peace symbol over the town. See how Vietnam veteran Dan Gallagher and peace advocate Betsy Mulligan-Dague demonstrate courage in altering the course of conflict between veterans and peace advocates. Hear Vietnam veteran speakers following the film.

'Pork Chop Hill'
Date: Nov. 10, 2014 at 6:30 p.m.

Salute Korean War veterans as representatives speak about the war and introduce the film, "Pork Chop Hill," starring Gregory Peck. The film is about an enduring event in military history depicting the first fierce battle of the U.S. Army's 7th Infantry Division with Chinese and North Korean forces in April 1953. The film was filled with actors who became stars on their own in the 1960s and 1970s.

'Why We Fight'
Date: Nov. 11, 2014 at 6:30 p.m.

Salute World War II veterans as representatives speak about the war and introduce the film, "Why We Fight." This powerful documentary was the US Army's response to Hitler's propaganda film, "Triumph of the Will." Intended to orient troops to the mission at hand, it also contributed greatly to influencing a nation reluctant to involve itself in the gathering menace overseas.

This is a USATF Certified 5k course timed professionally with chips and free photographic record. Enjoy healthful post-race refreshments in the camaraderie of participants surrounded by Americana music. Other nice race features are the free parking at the start and finish line right alongside Como Lake and indoor restrooms located below the pavilion promenade.

Support MSU Army ROTC students and earn a little recognition while doing so. Register online in advance and be guaranteed an attractive technical t-shirt. Proceeds go to the Army ROTC Michael John Fasnacht Scholarship Fund. The Maverick Battalion awards scholarships to freshman, sophomore and junior cadets in the program based on academic performance, attitude, program financial need and participation. First Lieutenant Michael John Fasnach was killed in action in Ad Dawr, Iraq while supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom III. Michael's wife and parents live in Janesville, Minnesota.
