Bellocq: Best Bars In New Orleans
Nestled in The Hotel Modern in the Central Business District of New Orleans, Bellocq is a cocktail lounge with a unique background.
According to Bellocq's website, at the turn of the 20th century, quiet Marine photographer E.J. Bellocq secretly photographed the madams of Storyville, New Orleans' famed red light district. The photos were only discovered upon his death and were unveiled to show an essence of Storyville never shown to residents before.
Bellocq is a new cocktail lounge inspired by the artist's photographs of a pre-prohibition sexual revolution. Neal Bodenheimer, Kirk Estopinal and Matthew Kohnke, owners and operators of New Orleans' renowned Cure, teamed up once again to create a unique cocktail menu for this new bar. Cocktail varieties include cobblers, punch, fortified wines, spirits, cocktails, and a wine and beer selection. The Lillet Blanc Cobbler is a classic drink of strawberry and citrus served with crushed ice, citrus, and berries, garnished with fruit. One house specialty is Ti' Punch with La favorite Blanc Rhum, Lime, and pure cane syrup.
