ATLANTA UP CLOSE – 9/13/14
This weekend on "Atlanta Up Close" with me as your host, Erica Walker...
A recap of the "Cultural Experience Project" celebration that took place on Wednesday at the Rialto Center for the Arts, observing 10 years of affording Atlanta High School students the opportunity to experience the city's premier art and cultural venues. Witnessing Giwayen Mata's performance almost brought me to tears as the hundreds of teenagers in attendance watched with undivided attention and passionately participated in the singalongs! I had an opportunity to catch up with Camille Russell Love — the Executive Director of the Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs — who hopes other cities are inspired to create similar programs in their districts. Newly appointed APS Superintendent, Dr. Meria Carstarphen, was also in attendance to congratulate the Cultural Experience Project on their ten-year milestone, as was Atlanta City Council President Ceasar C. Mitchell, who wholeheartedly believes hands on experience outside of the classroom sets our youth (and our community) up for success! You can learn more about the "Cultural Experience Project" at www.OCAatlanta.com.
During this weekend's show, you'll also hear from Coleman Wilson, the Chairman of the "Dr. Henry Holloway, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament" put on by the Kappa Alpha Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity. Their annual golf outing is the main source for scholarships given to deserving Medical Students across the Atlanta metro through their non-profit foundation "Project Uplift!" It will take place on Friday, September 19th at the Cherokee Run Golf Club. Learn more at www.Omega-KAA.com.
