Colder weather means the need for warmer clothes. So it should come as no surprise that fur everything is once again making its way back into our closets. Designers showed a wide array for fur options, from fur edging around hoods to full on shearling and fur coats. While fur is nice and in style, these days there are so many beautiful, soft and animal-friendly fake furs that there's no excuse to catch yourself walking around in the real thing. Let the animals keep their fur coats and get a wonderful faux version for yourself.

Call it the "Mad Men" effect but the sixties are still making a comeback! The fall runway shows were dominated by psychedelic prints and mod dress shapes that would have Don Draper's wife Megan squealing for joy. When dressing with a nod towards decades past, it can be easy to look over the top and costumey. If you love the sixties inspiration but don't want to look like a throwback Thursday gone wrong, consider adding just small touches. A bright, print 60s scarf can immediately make you look fashion forward, not too silly and won't break the bank.

If you're looking through the list and starting to feel nervous because you like sleek, simple looks, never fear! Knit is back for fall 2014. Forget about the chunky sweater your Grandma used to knit you. This fall, knits are very simple, luxurious and darn near tailored. Look for body-slimming silhouettes that are delicately ribbed. Best of all, if you work in a professional setting, these knits can do double duty and pair nicely with a pair of work pants and in place of a more costly blazer.

If you've ever hated donning a pair of sneakers for the commute home, thinking you look less put together but wanting the comfort to run for the T, there's good news for you. Sneakers are in! The athletic shoe is not just for the gym anymore. You'll see fashionistas across Boston pulling on their sneaks for all day, every day. But before you grab your old pair of gym sneakers that have been laying around for years, reconsider. While the trend is for sneakers, and comfortable footwear, this season's styles have been dressed with premium fabrics and fun colors.

Usually fall is a time for darker, deeper tones and rich neutrals. Not this year. Pantones' color of the year, radiant orchid, will continue through the fall and has really shaken up the fashion world. Fall 2014 is something of an anything-goes season of color. Along with orchid, all kinds of bright jewel tones will be filling store shelves and your closet. If you usually like lighter fare, there's good news for you too. Soft, romantic pastels are completely on trend, so long as you play with the texture. Shimmery pinks and nubby neutrals are completely okay despite the overall trend for brighter colors.
