Aldi has a number of quality deals to choose from, whether that be these 7 cookware dupes that are copycats for premium brands or this cut of steak that you should never leave on the shelf. And when it comes to brewing yourself a fresh cup of joe in the mornings, Aldi's Barissimo coffee has a large selection, from whole beans and ground coffees in a variety of different flavors to ready-to-drink cartons where all you need to do is add in some ice. But what about the brand behind these Barissimo beans? Well, according to the company, Aldi's long-term partnership with the roastery NewCoffee means that customers can purchase quality coffee at a great price while also supporting ethical sourcing when it comes to the harvesting and sustainability of this product.

NewCoffee is a roastery that has been in production since 1960. Based in Ketsch, Baden Württemberg in Germany, this company initially began supplying coffee to ALDI SÜD (Aldi South). Now, NewCoffee supplies both Aldi Süd and Aldi Nord (Aldi North) stores (here's the difference between the two), producing and shipping more than 35,000 metric tons every year to stores all over the world. Besides Aldi, this coffee roastery supplies coffee to a number of other external customers, from bakeries to vending machine operators.

NewCoffee prides itself on sustainability

Besides roasting thousands upon thousands of tons of coffee each year, NewCoffee markets itself as a responsible party when it comes to promoting positive environmental and labor standards when sourcing its beans. According to the company website, NewCoffee products are certified by at least one of the Fairtrade, Fair Trade USA, Organic, or Rainforest Alliance sustainability standards. These labels are a more formal certification of an attempt to ensure either the equitable treatment of coffee farmers and harvesters, or environmental standards related to sustainable farming practices.

According to a statement from Aldi Süd, the company that owns and operates all of the Aldi stores in the United States: "Our goal as a company is not only to deliver first-class products, but also to ensure fair working conditions and environmentally friendly production along our coffee supply chain. To drive change, the ALDI SÜD Group supports direct sourcing models and purchases most of its coffee from certified sources."

When it comes to the manufacturing process, Aldi maintains that NewCoffee follows sustainable practices in production facilities are IFS and ISO 50001, 45001, and 14001 certified. This means that NewCoffee manufactures its beans with an effort to improve energy usage as well as reduce waste and recycle when possible. Ultimately, whether you are pouring yourself a morning brew or grabbing a quick iced coffee to-go from your fridge, Aldi's partnership with NewCoffee means that your daily caffeine fix aims to deliver on both quality and responsible, ethical production — from bean to cup.
